The construction of the rock revetment required the importation and placing of 16,000 tonnes of rock armour.

A resident artist was employed to ensure the final aesthetics of the scheme. Environmental considerations were a high priority as much of the works were undertaken within designated sites such as the Duver Lagoon area.

HRH The Duke of Edinburgh officially opened the scheme on 10 August, with Van Oord managing director Koos van Oord and UK area manager Joep Athmer presenting HRH with a Dutch bicycle as a memento of the successful completion.
