Cranes Ordered for Antwerp's New Terminal

Sweden headquartered Kalmar has two won orders from PSA/Hesse-Noord Natie for a total of eight super post-Panamax ship to shore (STS) container cranes for the Deurganckdok and Quay 913 in the port of Antwerp. With an outreach of 56m, these high speed, heavy duty cranes will be capable of handling ships over 20 containers wide.

Six of the cranes are destined for Hesse-Noord Natie's new terminal on the River Schelde's left bank. With a total quay length of 2,750m on which 24 ship to shore cranes will ultimately work, this massive new terminal will have a capacity of 3.75 million TEU upon completion.

The other two cranes will go to the Noordzeeterminal at Quay 913, where six Kalmar STS cranes are already operational.

This will further boost capacity for Hesse-Noord Natie, which was acquired by the PSA Corporation in 2002. PSA has 17 terminals in 11 countries which collectively handled a staggering 28.7 million TEU last year.

The cranes to be delivered to Hesse-Noord Natie will incorporate Kalmar's latest STS crane technology and design. Kalmar and Siemens have established a consortium for this project, with the electrical installation being provided by Siemens Brussels.
