New Software for Hard Cutting
01 Sep 2004
Sliedrecht based dredging systems specialist IHC Systems BV has won an order from Belgian contractor Vlaamse Baggermaatschappiij NV toprovide an operational face lift for its 25 year old cutter suction dredger Vesalius . The vessel has been operating on the Spanish coast near Valencia but will be docked in the autumn for works which will include a partial renewal of the dredge control console.
Stand-alone systems used to control dredging operations will benefit from IHC Systems' upgraded Human Machine Interface (HMI) SCADA presentation system recently fitted during face lifts of Jan De Nul's large cutter suction dredgers Marco Polo and Leonardo da Vinci . The new SCADA software programme with renewed video screen presentations and PLC control facilities will replace Vesalius 'old Dredge Profile Monitor and Automatic Cutter Control system. In close cooperation with the owner's technical staff, a team of IHC's PLC and SCADA engineers will design a new look.
The face lift will include a PLC system for the control of new operational features, including a link to a newly installed drive system. Both SCADA and PLC application software will undergo factory acceptance testing in Sliedrecht.
It will then be tested on board during final commissioning scheduled for the first quarter of 2005.
