Diesel-Electric Systems Power Into SMM

Bakker Sliedrecht travels from the Netherlands to SMM 2004 , where it will show recent developments with high efficiency diesel-electric propulsion systems on Stand 600 in Hall 7.

The breakthrough multi-purpose pontoon Terra Marique, seen here arriving at seawork2004, features a dieselelectric propulsion system from Bakker Sliedrecht.

The dedicated marine system integrator is seeing a sharp increase in demand for the application of electric drive systems for main and auxiliary propulsion systems, bow thrusters and stern thrusters.

One recent Bakker Sliedrecht project was the turn key installation of 2x1,500kW low noise propulsion for the diesel-electric powered research vessel Celtic Explorer . The installation includes generators, powering of thrusters, switchboards, alarm/monitoring systems and cabling.

The company has also designed, delivered installed and started up the new compact diesel electric propulsion system for two SWATH ferries which do not require main switchboards. A diesel electric propulsion system for the new 130m LOA ferry TESO consisted of generators, transformers, medium and low voltage switchboards, drives, propulsion motors, control consoles, alarm and monitoring systems and cabling.

Bakker Sliedrecht are also responsible for the diesel-electric propulsion system which powers the highly innovative multi-purpose pontoon Terra Marique , belonging to the UK's Robert Wynn & Sons. Vastly experienced with dredger projects, Bakker Sliedrecht provided diesel-electric propulsion for the world's most powerful self-propelled cutter suction dredger, Belgian contractor Jan De Nul's 36,924hp JFJ De Nul .Also underway is the drive and energy systems for a new CSD in China and there are recently completed turn key installations for Boskalis' 15,850m 3capacity trailing suction hopper dredgers Prins der Nederlanden and Oranje .
