The cooperation between the two companies comes on the heels of an earlier announcement of a memorandum of understanding whereby the two companies will jointly market Novatug's novel Carrousel system.

The Carrousel design, which has been covered in MJ by Jack Gaston (see Tugs & Towing , December 2003), is characterised by the radically new concept of placing a ring around the tug's superstructure. With the towing wire connected to either a hook or a winch on the ring, the towing wire can be rotated freely from the tug's hull. This removes the need for rotation of the tug's propulsion via thrusters whilst enhancing operational flexibility.

GE Marine offers a full line of GE Diesel and EMD compatible engines and products for the marine and other markets. The company's high compression, electronic fuel injected engines recently received ABS certification and are driven by GE's new Powerstar Controller. GE Diesels meet current MARPOL and EPA Marine Tier 1 emissions requirements and will also meet EPA Marine Tier II that goes into effect in 2007.
