Hydrographic Survey by David Goodfellow

Shallow Survey 2005

Over 300 delegates are expected at the 4th International Conference on High Resolution Surveys in Shallow Water , in Plymouth from 12-15 September.

Jointly organised by the UK Hydrographic Office and the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, the main attraction of proceedings is a Common Data Set with which surveys at less than 200m depth will be carried out using a variety of competing systems at the same location close to the conference venue (the Plymouth Moat House). This, say the organisers, will enable delegates to directly compare differing systems and techniques.

In addition to specialist workshops and an exhibition involving 26 companies, the four day conference programme includes up to 40 specialist presentations by speakers from Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, the UK and the USA.

Proceedings formally open with a keynote address by Vice Admiral Alexandros Maratos, President of the International Hydrographic Bureau in Monaco, while there will also be opportunities to visit various survey vessels including the Royal Navy's latest, HMSEnterprise . A tour of the UK Hydrographic Office's headquarters at Taunton is also on the agenda.

Cost of registration, including VAT, is £528.75. Further details can be accessed via the main conference website www. shallowsurvey. com
