    The Port of London Authority has welcomed London's surprise victory in the race to host the 2012 Olympic Games. PLA chief executive Richard Everitt said, 'This is excellent news for London and the UK. The announcement also presents important opportunities for greater use of the River Thames.' 

  • Salvors Deploy the World's Most Powerful Helicopter

    The Tsavliris Group hasdeployed the world's most powerful helicopter for lightering duties in works to free the 25,500dwt bulk carrier Kiperousa , which ran aground off South Africa following flooding in its engine room. The vessel was on a voyage from Gabon and Cameroon to China fully laden with 23,000 tons of logs. 

  • Flexible Power for Newbuild Feeder

    Wartsila Corporation has won a contract to supply two Wartsila 46F engines to power an Ice class 1A open top container feeder vessel ordered by Dutch owner Wagenborg Shipping and being built at the Kinderdijk yard of IHCHolland Dredgers BV . The new Wartsila 46F was launched at the SMM marine exhibition in Hamburg last autumn. 

  • Thamesport Adds Dublin Feeder

    X-Press Container Line (UK) Ltd has introduced a third service at Thamesport (London) Limited .The specialist feeder operator's RDX service will provide a weekly service from Thamesport to Dublin, with the port rotation continuing from Dublin to Rotterdam before returning to Thamesport.

    In order to accommodate the new generation of larger container vessels being used on Far East shipping routes, Thamesport (London) Limited has undertaken an ambitious modification programme to five of its quayside cranes. 

  • Elliott Transfer to Tees

    Elliott Turbomachinery Ltd has transferred ownership, all intellectual rights and all new sales, service and spares of Elliott White Gill Thrusters, White Gill Thrusters , and Gill Thrusters to Cleveland UK based Tees Components Ltd . Tees has been Elliott's principal subcontractor for the manufacture and assembly of thrusters units for the past six years and their principal heavy machinist for the preceding 17 years. Elliott believes the transfer of Tees' experienced staff will ensure continuing customer confidence in the business.
