Portosalvo sailed from its naming ceremony late last month for Aberdeen and on to Peterhead, where it will be based as part of the Gulf service fleet.

The vessel is divided into watertight compartments and has a double hull to comply with the SF class and damage stability.

Portosalvo is the third UT 755L delivered from Simek A/S and is a medium size PSV, of which Simek have two more on order. The four steel blocks for the vessel were built at Gdansk by Maritim Ltd and transported on barges to Flekkefjord for assembly in Simek A/S' heated building shed.

The engines drive Rolls-Royce Marine supplied Kamewa Ulstein type 600AGSC main propulsion gearboxes turning two Kamewa Ulstein CP propellers of 2.9m diameter at 197rpm. Each gearbox is connected to a shaft generator of 1,800kVa for the vessel's main electrical supply.

The forward thrusters room houses two Kamewa Ulstein CP type 250 TV transverse thrusters of 590kW each. All side thrusters are fitted with fresh water cooled electric motors. In the aft thruster room a single Kamewa Ulstein CP type 150 TV transverse thruster is fitted, with a tunnel already installed for a possible future additional unit.

On trials, Portosalvo reached a speed of 15.2 knots.
