Short sea shipping has been identified as a sector for attention by EU environment commissioner Stavros Dimas. Alongside ship building, Mr Dimas believes new legislation for Europe's maritime industries is necessary under his marine environment strategy aimed at cleaning up Europe's territorial waters by 2021.
