Workboats Roll from Damen Yard
01 Dec 2005
Damen Shipyards' Hardinxveld yard in the Netherlands continues its prolific output of workboats with the recent delivery of two shallow draft 1908 Multicats to Coastal Shipping BV.
Named CS Marine and CS Carmen, the vessels will be used for anchor handling, supply duties, towing, hose handling and survey activities. The 19m Multi Cats will be deployed in the Caspian Sea on a long term contract supporting the local oil and gas industry. Because of local conditions, the draft is limited to 1.0m but despite such limitation, the vessels still exert a bollard pull in excess of 9 tons.
Each boat is powered by twin caterpillar 3406C-TA marine diesels rated 596kW at 1,800rpm and driving 1,000mm diameter fixed pitch propellers in nozzles through Reintjes WAF 144 gearboxes with a reduction of 3.522:1. This combination is good for a speed of 9.5 knots.
Deck equipment includes an Effer 25000 2S crane rated for 3 tons at 8.05m and a 20 ton towing winch. Classification is by Bureau Veritas.
Also handed over last month at Hardinxveld was Scheurrak, a 26.55m LOA survey catamaran for the Rijkswaterstaat Noord-Holland. Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld has been awarded completion and outfitting of the newbuild and worked closely with the Rijkswaterstaat in performing the works.
Scheurrak is powered by twin MTU main engines with a total output of 1,576 kW driving Hamilton waterjets, which gave the vessel a trial speed of 22 knots.
The vessel will feature the latest survey equipment and will be used for a broad range of sounding and survey duties in the waterways district of the province of North-Holland as well as in the coastal waters of the North Sea.
