UKHMA 2005 Spring Seminar Announced

The UK Harbour Masters' Association will hold its 2005 Spring Seminar at the IMarEST Conference Centre incentral London on 13 April.

Among the topics under discussion will be a presentation by Jeremy Tucker on the UKHMA?s upgraded website, which has been enhanced to make it more user friendly.

HR Wallingford has recently been involved in a number of supporting studies that provide key inputs to the EIA process for dredging projects in ports.

Dr Jane Smallman and Dr Mike Dearnaley from HRW will reflect on their experience with illustrations from recent UK port development projects.

The wider scale use of GPS and DGPS coupled with AIS is impacting on the provision of traditional aids to navigation.

Captain Duncan Glass, Director of Navigational Requirements at Trinity House, will explain how his and sister organisations are effecting a review of requirements through to 2020 and how Trinity House is adapting to the changing circumstances to provide a cost effective service for mariners.

Colin Morris of the Department for Transport's Ports Division will discuss how growing concern for the environment has been translated into a range of legislative measures, many of which directly effect port operations. He will describe the range of materials now available on the subject through the DfT Port Environmental Information Project.

The morning and afternoon speakers will answer questions at the end of their respective sessions.
