First Ever Linkspan Order for TTS
01 Feb 2005
Gothenburg based TTS Ships Equipment AB has won a contract from Stena Line Scandinavia AB for the turnkey delivery of linkspan for the Stena Terminal at Verko, near Karlskrona in Sweden. It is TTS's first ever linkspan order.
Due to become operational by 25 April this year, the linkspan will be used to load and unload trucks on a second level simultaneously to and from the Stena owned ro-ro vessels Stena Baltica and Stena Nautica , which operate between Karlskrona and Gydnia in Poland. The Stena Nautica can already unload on a two tier basis but the Stena Baltica isbeing converted in Poland to use the two tier loading and unloading that will speed turnaround times.
Traffic between the two ports has increased dramatically over recent years and Stena has reacted by placing two ships on the service. The existing linkspan at the Verko Terminal allows for loading/unloading operations from the vessels' main decks. The new plan calls for the weather deck ramp to be added to the existing linkspan, allowing vehicles from the weather decks to be unloaded simultaneously with those from the main decks.
The vessels will berth with bows towards the existing linkspan for both loading and unloading operations. Special attention has been given to the differing bow arrangements of the vessels, with Stena Baltica equipped with double leaf side doors swinging astern while Stena Nautica has a bow visor which swings upwards.
Both vessels have bow ramps which interact with the existing linkspan.
TTS Ship Equipment will supply the weather deck ramp, which comprises a fixed access ramp and an outer movable linkspan.
