Brunei EDB Appoints Halcrow for Port Study

Brunei has launched a global campaign to find a partner for its planned US$1.7 billion deepwater port, which is a major plank in the tiny Asian nation's economic diversification plan.

The Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) has announced that it has hired international consultancy firm Halcrow to find companies who are able to build and manage the port, which the government wants to start perating by 2008.

The planned Pulau Muara Besar port's biggest selling point is its depth, which means that minimal dredging would be required.
