'THV Patricia' Escorts Her Majesty The Queen
01 Jul 2005
Her Majesty the Queen reviewed the Fleet from on board HMS Endurance . In accordance with the long held tradition of escorting the Sovereign at sea in home waters, the Elder Brethren of Trinity House embarked on THV Patricia to lead the Royal Squadron through the review lines. Her Majesty then witnessed a steam and sail past of warships, tall ships and yachts followed by a fly past of maritime aircraft and the Red Arrows.
The tradition of the Elder Brethren, or Directors of Trinity House, escorting the Sovereign at sea goes back to 1688 with King William III and came into regular use in the 19th century.
Patricia's commanding officer Captain Trevor Dann said, 'We are delighted to be playing such a significant role in the Trafalgar 200 celebrations. It will be an important chapter in the history of THV Patricia and all the ship's crew are proud to be involved in this way.'
