The 300m 3capacity grab hopper dredger was built by IHC Holland and delivered to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority in 2003. Suitable for both capital and maintenance dredging works, its brief is to service all the nation's ports.

The cost of getting the vessel back into the water has been met by the Dutch development bank FMO out of overseas aid funds.

IHC Holland Engineering & Renovation was awarded the contract following a tendering procedure.

The actual rescue was performed by Jumbo Shipping's heavy lift crane ship Jumbo Javelin . Eight special hoisting eyes were temporarily welded onto the dredger enabling one of Javelin's high capacity cranes to lift it back into the water.
