Norway/Florida Strategic Alliance

Norway's Maritime Information Systems AS MARIS has entered into an alliance with Florida USA based ACR Electronics Inc to share proprietary software, engineering and manufacturing systems to design, build and market a suite of maritime and safety electronics systems.

ACR entered the field of marine bridge safety electronics in 2003 when its parent company acquired Austria based AIS supplier Nauticast AG. ACR markets AIS under the GlobalWatch and GlobalWatch2 brands. Maritime on board systems specialist MARIS was first in the world with a type approved ARPA based on a PC and first with a certified ECDIS based on a flat panel computer.

It is estimated that some 55,000 commercial vessels are in the process of meeting international agency mandates or will be upgrading and adding bridge information and security systems over the next several years. Through the alliance, ACR will re-brand several systems in the MARIS line and will use its extended sales network to target commercial maritime customers while MARIS will continue to market its brands through its existing network which has placed more than 1,500 navigation systems with customers in more than 30 countries.

Marine bridge safety electronics systems included in the alliance are VDR and SVDR, ECDIS, and Pilot Mate, a real time navigation tool based on ECDIS software developed in cooperation with deep sea pilots in the UK and Norway.

Also included is PC Radar Kit, an ARPA radar overlay that allows users to turn their PC into an advanced radar and tracking system. The PC Radar Kit can be combined with a compatible electronic chart system to display the radar image on top of the chart.
