Chain System Upgrade Strengthens Capacity Requirements
01 Jun 2005
Richard Oldknow, director of Crosby Europe (UK) said, 'Grade 10 is still relatively new within the industry but I am certain that in the next couple of years, as the acceptance of Grade 10 products increases, most manufacturers will be producing chains and fittings at this level.'
Size for size, the new chain fittings also claim 25% more capacity than standard Grade 8 fittings, enabling them to adequately lift heavier loads, and are fatigue rated at one and a half times the Working Load Limit (WLL) at 20,000 cycles.
The 8/10 products are made from heat treated forged alloy steel and offer extreme toughness and the ability to withstand repeated applications of load.
The Quenched and Tempered heat treat process allows each product to deform if overloading occurs, giving advance warning of potential ultimate failure.
All components are individually proof tested at two and a half times the WLL and each item is supplied with its own certification.
The range also includes both clevis and eye type fittings. The latter are for use with high performance wire rope and there are smaller eye fittings for higher WLL, ultimately reducing sling weight, which makes for easier manual handling. The 8/10 range is also made easily recognisable in a platinum colour which differentiates it from other ranges.
