ASRY Expands Boatbuilding
01 Jun 2005
The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY) in Bahrain, occasionally seen in MJ 's Vessel Repair coverage, has been awarded a $4m contract by the Kuwait Oil Tanker Co SAK (KOTC) for a newbuild service boat.
The first vessel of this design to be built by ASRY, it will be completed by the end of this year.
ASRY has built a number of smaller vessels in the past and is now looking to expand its operations and expertise into building specialised vessels such as tugs and service boats.
The 35m LOA newbuild will be built to LRS class and powered by twin main engines driving conventional propellers.
The boat will be fitted with a bow thruster. It will carry a crew of six and has capacity for 20 passengers.
Its main duties as a service boat will include the delivery of potable water plus necessary spares and provisions to KOTC's fleet of tankers and other vessels.
Also on board will be a six ton deck crane, a 10 ton towing hook, a sewage treatment plant and an oily water separator.
