Eco-Friendly Hull Protection at Seawork

Cuprotect , the complete eco-friendly hull protection system that was launched in September 2004, will be at Seawork 2005 on Stand 194.

The rectangular panel which was treated with Cuprotect remains unfouled after seven months immersion while the surrounding area is less fortunate.

Anyone interested in knowing more about the effectiveness of the product, or in becoming part of the fast-growing official CuprotectTM installer network, should come and visit the Ecosea stand.

Cuprotect is guaranteed to prevent bio-fouling for five years, and has a service life in excess of 10 years. It is applied by professional installers, is fast to apply and provides a highly effective uniform coating, comprising particles of copper nickel alloy that are sprayed onto a bed of epoxy resins. Cuprotect is a continuous seamless coating that does not require any grouting. The spray application of the material onto the hull is fast and very cost effective. The resulting micro-granule surface is totally non-conductive and thereby effectively combats any of the normally observed corrosion or galvanic reactions.

Upon immersion Cuprotect naturally forms an oxide film, less than 0.5 of a micron thick, that fouling organisms find inhospitable, thereby preventing the occurrence of bio-fouling.

Cuprotect protects hulls from degradation caused by osmosis in GRP and rust in steel. It also offers protection against galvanic action and degradation caused by electrolysis and provides years of durability with virtually no maintenance.

Cuprotect's ingenious combination of epoxy resin technology and micro-granular metallic finish is applicable to all hull types, and provides a highly durable, very effective and extremely environmentally friendly surface. It contains no dangerous substances such as tributyltins (TBTs), organotins, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), or any other toxic compounds.

A further benefit of Cuprotect is the total absence of harmful 'biocide boosters' as commonly used in traditional anti-foul paints. These chemical 'boosters' have no anti-fouling properties themselves. They are used to promote the effectiveness of the chosen active ingredient within the paint, however they also have some polluting effect on the environment to which they are introduced.
