Jotun Hard to Beat at Seawork 2005

Jotun Paints (Europe) returns for Seawork 2005 , where visitors to Stand 91 will be able to subject the company's recently introduced Hardtop Flexi topcoat to the dreaded 'hammer test', checking for themselves its ability to survive the most terrible of treatment. The high-flexibility polyurethane formulation is literally so hard to beat that the impact of loaded transport containers has failed to damage it.

Irish Ferries vessel Ulysees was built at Aker-Finnyards, Rauma in 2000. Hardtop Flexi was applied to the hull and decks.

The exceptional flexibility of the new product has been confirmed using the ASTM 522-93a conical mandrel test.

Tests under realistic working conditions , where the paint is often applied without proper pre-treatment, have shown its remarkable adhesion qualities.

Over a million litres of the new Jotun product have already been used successfully in a wide variety of working conditions. It can be used successfully on bare metal, over any two-pack primer, and even on old or rusty surfaces it has shown no tendency to stick to other coatings.

Hardtop Flexi can be can be applied by brush or roller (although the latter is not recommended for a first coat) and is suitable for application at temperatures down to -50C. It is also exceptionally water resistant. A newly painted surface, for example, will not be damaged by an unexpected shower. It is also very effective in hiding imperfections and is available in a virtually unlimited range of colours.

Also new at Seawork will be Jotun's 'SeaForce' range of TBT-free antifoulings which, based on a new polymeric plasticiser technology (PPT), has been developed specifically to replace Jotun hydrating antifoulings to give better performance at no extra cost.

Designed for users seeking better and more predictable performance with greater cost effectiveness, the SeaForce range also delivers an optimal combination of TBT-free biocides, a reduced leaching layer for trouble free overcoating, high volume solids, quick drying, and a controlled, linear polishing rate.

Of the new range, 'SeaForce 90' utilises a combination of unique synthetic polymers to achieve properties superior to those of hydrating/CDP technologies. As a result, this top of the range product offers performance and predictability for up to 60 months.

'SeaForce 60' is versatile and predictable, with an optimised cost/performance ratio and offers 60 months good performance on selected vessel areas that spend significant time in ballast and on flat bottoms. Up to 36 months can be expected on vertical sides.

When cost is the key consideration, 'SeaForce 30' is the economical solution, offering a good antifouling performance.

Designed for vessels in global trade, it is also well suited for dry docking at 36 month intervals.
