Sandy Hook Pilots Order One More Boat

The Sandy Hook Pilots' Association in New York, which already operates three vessels built by Derecktor Shipyards , has placed an order for a fourth. Work got underway in January on the 55.8ft LOA all aluminium vessel, with delivery scheduled for August of this year.

Camarc Small Craft Designs developed the plans for the boat, which is being built to Lloyds and ABYC rules. A double chine hull design is optimised for speed, safety and sea keeping.

Robust scantlings exceed rule requirements, resulting in a strong, durable vessel which is built to perform well beyond the designed service life of 15 years.

A unique fendering system provides maximum surface area for the impact zone and has no through fastenings, making for extreme durability and impact absorption. The vessel also features heated decks and hand rails, forward raked pilothouse windows for better visibility and a hydraulic stern rescue platform.

The 27 ton displacement craft will be powered by twin Caterpillar C18 marine diesels, each delivering 825hp to conventional propellers for a relaxed service speed of 25 knots.
