Webasto Keeps Kool at Seawork
01 Jun 2005
Insulation is extremely important on boats. A correctly insulated boat is not only more efficient at retaining the operator's preferred 'comfort zone' temperature but will also experience less problems with compensation and will be quieter both inside and out.
In a joint venture with 3M, Webasto, the manufacturer of both OEM and retro-fit marine heating, air conditioning and ventilation products, has added Thinsulate acoustic insulation to its product range.
Already well established in the outdoor clothing and automotive industries as a thermal insulator, Thinsulate is well suited to the marine environment as it is extremely lightweight as well as being hydrophobic. This means it repels water, putting a permanent end to the possibility of mould or mildew growth. It is also hypoallergenic and easy to handle, with the sheet simply cut to size and glued into position.
Thinsulate is available in two thicknesses; 25mm for narrow beam craft and 50 mm for vessels with broader beams, the increased thickness being necessary to cope with larger internal air volumes. Webasto also offer a 50 mm foil encapsulated version for engine room sound insulation.
Webasto have developed the standard Thinsulate product and manufactured a range of air ducting insulation, to be launched under the Thermoduct brand name. Designed to slip over the ducting supplied with all air heating kits, this 19 mm thick, 750 mm long tube requires no special tools or knowledge to fit.
Webasto will be on Stand 69 at Seawork 2005 exhibiting the latest models from their range of marine heating and air conditioning systems.
