Famous Buoy Successfully Upgraded in the Arabian Gulf
01 Mar 2005
The only buoy to be owned by one of the leading shipping agents in the region, it has provided safe passage since the early 1970s, enabling tankers leaving port to avoid stopping as they exit the Gulf.
The buoy allows tankers to receive services, including transferral of parts, personnel and provisions, rather than have to make a port call.
The upgrade is further indication of ISS' continuing investment in services in the Gulf following the recent expansion of its fleet of dedicated launch vessels in the region.
ISS recently became the first management company to establish a maritime centre, with a complete transit facility, inside the Port of Fujairah and has played a significant role in supporting the requirements of the military and humanitarian efforts in the Middle East during 2003.
The Middle East Navigation Aids Service (MENAS) successfully laid the new Inchcape buoy. It is located on position 2610 N 05553 E at a distance of 14.5 NM North West from Mina Saqr Port BW and will feature on all Admiralty charts.
