Seawork 2005 Preview

Debut Appearance for Mojo at Seawork

One of the many companies making their first appearance as exhibitors at Seawork this year is Falmouth based Mojo Maritime Ltd , which offers a range of in-house marine expertise providing both contract and consultancy support to offshore projects for both UK clients and those abroad in locations running from the Netherlands to West Africa.

The company is currently expanding into new areas such as marine renewable energy consultancy and support as well as port agency work.

Mojo Maritime has recently been contracted by client Fugro-Geos to install a wave measurement buoy 12 miles off the UK coast near St Ives.

The area has great potential for the generation of electricity from waves and is being investigated by the South West Regional Development Agency as the possible site for Wave Hub, a connection point at sea into which wave energy developers can plug their generating devices. The Wave Hub would play a crucial role in any future development of the UK marine renewable sector.

Mojo Maritime's director, Captain Richard Parkinson, is keen to capitalise on the years of experience gained in offshore projects such as cable laying, mooring and dive contracting to support emerging renewable energy projects such as the Wave Hub.

The company's small, dedicated team are veterans of offshore construction, towing, cable laying, salvage and diving activities, with Master Mariners and Salvage Masters among them.

For the Wave Hub project, Mojo Maritime has again deployed its versatile support vessel Portree II which is based in Penzance only 32 nm from the project site.

Portree II is a former landing craft which has been modified for salvage and cable laying works. Equipped with deck winches and cranes, it provides a versatile platform which in recent weeks has also carried a double decker bus to Scilly and removed a dead whale from a beach near Lands End.

So busy, in fact, is Portree II that it will not be at Seawork but members of the Mojo Maritime team will be.
