New Technical Director Joins Boatbuilders VT Halmatic

RNLI engineering manager Professor Bob Cripps has joined boat builders VTHalmatic as technical director with effect from the 9th of this month.

Professor Cripps worked at Lloyds before moving to the RNLI and has extensive knowledge and experience of small craft and composite technology. He will lead the technical team supported by marine design manager Dr Andrew Humphries and Dr Robin Mableson, who heads up the Composite Technology Centre.

The VT Composite Technology Centre (CTC) was formed in 2001 by the amalgamation of composite expertise from various divisions within the VT Group. The CTC provides engineering solutions across a range of composite applications, from design to production. As part of an ongoing diversification programme, the CTC also manages a range of projects outside the shipbuilding market.

VT Halmatic operates from two sites. The purpose built Portchester Shipyard occupies a 15 acre waterfront site at the top of Portsmouth Harbour while a recently redeveloped site at Sandquay, Dartmouth offers enhanced refit capability in the UK South West.
