IMCA Digital Video Review

A detailed review of methods now being increasingly adopted for digital encoding and recording of video data for offshore survey applications has been published by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), which has nearly 300 members in 35 countries representing leading offshore, marine and underwater engineering companies.

Pointing out that more efficient processing and delivery techniques are now being demanded by client specifications and sub-contractors than can be realised by analogue video methods, IMCA's Offshore Survey and Remote Systems & ROV divisions have jointly compiled an analysis of present and future digital advances along with practical applications and issues affecting development of standards. The aim of the publication, says IMCA's Technical Director, Jane Bugler, is to encourage widespread use of digital video and provide information on how data is acquired, synchronised with traditional survey information and then compiled into digital reports for delivery to clients.

IMCA members can download the review (Digital Video Offshore: A Review of Current & Future Technologies) via the organisation’s members only website, with additional hard copies being available for £15. Copies for non-members are priced at £30 and can be obtained direct from IMCA, 5 Lower Belgrave Street, London SW1 0NR (Tel: 020 7824 5520 Fax: 020 824 5521 Email: publications@imca-int.com).
