EUR-OCEANS Tracks Climate Change

The Plymouth UK based National Marine Aquarium is the only tourist attraction in the country selected to participate in a major new climate change project. As a member of the European Network of Excellence project, it will join participants in 25 other European countries to investigate and communicate the effects of climate change to the world.

The new Network of Excellence is run by the General Assembly and the European Union and consists of two main areas;

Research & Training, and Communication. EUR-OCEANS is a European Union funded Network of Excellence which brings together European scientists to share knowledge, best practice, equipment and research.

The goal of EUR-OCEANS is to develop models which will enable prediction and assessment of the impact of climate change on marine systems and fisheries. Intrinsic to the network is a public outreach programmewhich is being operated by The Association for the Promotion of EUR-OCEANS.

Over the next two years the Association will develop a programme of films, educational materials, exhibitions and conferences that will highlight the science of the EUR-OCEANS network. Over the coming months the National Marine Aquarium will participate in the next stages of the project, involved in the production of a series of films covering the oceans of Europe and providing learning materials for the education sector. A EUR-OCEANS website will be opened later in the autumn.
