'Land Swap' Lands Port Facilities
01 Nov 2005
The facility represents a considerable improvement to the public facilities available in Teignmouth, comprising 20m of quay frontage with a guaranteed water depth of 1.5m at all states of the tide. The quay surface has been constructed to the same standard as the port's new commercial quays and will allow mobile cranes to operate immediately adjacent to the quay wall. The new relocated slipway is twice the width of the one it replaced and has a shallower gradient. In addition, underground ducts have been laid in the area to allow for future upgrading of services.
The leader of Teignbridge District Council, Cllr Alan Connett said, ‘This development highlights the benefits of partnership working by creating new public facilities and supporting this strategically important commercial port.’ Colin Greenwell, ABP port manager for Plymouth & Teignmouth said, ‘I am delighted that this long planned scheme has now been brought to fruition. It stands as an excellent example of how ABP and the District Council have cooperated to provide a win-win solution for all parties involved. ‘I would also like to praise the facility's design and build contractor, Dean & Dyball, for their flexibility, adaptability and the outstanding work that resulted in this facility being completed on time.’
