Dubai Drydocks Builds Its Own Crane

Visitors to ShipRepair & Conversion Dubai may find time to make a side excursion to Dubai Drydocks, which has built a 2,000 ton floating crane to its own account.
Mounted on an 86.4m by 38.5m barge with a draft of 5m, the crane has a maximum hook height of 99m.
Diesel electric power for the crane is provided by four 12 cylinder heat exchanger cooled Cummins VTA28D(M) engines turning generators of 500kW each.
Designed by Bureau Den Boer BV in the Netherlands for heavy lifting, the vessel is classed by DNV as +1A1 RO Crane Barge. Crane lifting capacities are 2 x 500 tons on the main sheerleg and 2 X 500 tons on the jib. Auxiliary tackles include one of 35 tons each on both the main sheerleg and the jib, 2 x 8 tons on the 'A' frame and 2 x 8 tons on the jib. Deck equipment includes 6 x 4 ton anchors and six mooring winches. There is day accommodation on board for 10 people.
