Cheetahs Multiply in Yorkshire
01 Oct 2005
The presence of one new workboat in a locale can sometimes lead to other orders for the builder, as Isle of Wight based Cheetah Marine hasfound to its delight along the Holderness coastline in Yorkshire UK. Following on from one and then two recent deliveries of 6.9m commercial fishing boats to the area, Cheetah Marine has just completed a 7.9m Cheetah configured as a dedicated survey boat for Hull based Precision Marine Surveys .
Lizzard will be used for studying the diversity and abundance of inshore marine species along the Holderness coastline using a variety of sampling techniques.
Built to conform to the Workboat Code of Practice Category 3, Lizzard is certified to work up to 20 miles from a safe haven with eight people on board. All safety equipment, including an eight man life raft is included with the vessel.
The long survey style wheelhouse features moulded port and starboard worktops.
Shelves and storage below enable all survey and safety equipment to be stowed away, maximising available space in the wheelhouse.
The aft deck is equipped with a Spencer Carter 5hp power pack, complete with winch and davit for deployment and retrieval of survey equipment.
Powered by twin 90hp Honda outboards, Lizzard is capable of achieving top speeds of 25 knots, with a cruising average of 18 knots. Inbuilt twin 130 litre fuel tanks were manufactured in-house by the Cheetah metal workshop, as were the safety rails and gantry.
A custom built 7.9m Cheetah trailer completed the order. Working in conjunction with the catamaran, the trailer will enable Precision Marine Surveys to launch and recover the boat from beaches as well as move it by road to various launch sites.
