'MV Husky' Arrives On Emerald Shore
01 Oct 2005
Ireland's HydroServe Projects Ltd has taken delivery of the 21m shallow draft multi-purpose vessel MVHusky , which was shipped to Killybegs from the Far East on board the freighter BBC Mexico . The vessel was previously under contract to Shell for gas field support operations and is specially equipped to work in 'hot' areas on gas and oil jetties.
Fire preventative features include wet exhausts with spark arrestors and an external drenching system.
The vessel is currently under Lloyds class 100 A1 Tug + Lloyds Machinery Class and has a P5 Passenger Licence issued by the Department of Marine to carry up to 12 persons in Irish coastal waters to 30 miles offshore.
MV Husky is powered by twin Caterpillar 3408 diesels driving twin props in Kort nozzles for a cruising speed of 10 knots and an eight ton bollard pull. The versatile craft is particularly suited for shallow water works, with its shallow draft, flat bottom and protected propellers making the craft ideal for shallow water survey, dive support and wind farm construction projects.
The vessel compliments HydroServe Projects' range of Geoswath shallow water surveying services and is equipped with an on board computer running EIVA Navipac positioning software with DGPS for sub-metric positioning and track control.
MV Husky is equipped with a towing winch and quick release tow hook as well as an 'A' frame and three ton winch for seabed sampling. It is also fitted out for oil pollution response, with an oil skimmer and pollution control booms.
There is a 15,000 litre capacity for waste oil and a further 20,000 litre capacity to pump off fuel oil. HydroServe will also be installing a 10 ton towing winch and a plough during the vessel's currently ongoing refit.
