Under the contract Tideland will supply all the US Coast Guard's requirement over the next three years, with the first tranche of 97 units already ordered. Tideland's Canadian subsidiary won a similar order from the Canadian Coast Guard in the autumn of 2004 and the company also supplies a number of Latin American countries, including Mexico and Brazil.

SeaBeacon 2 System 6 is the company's latest dual band racon, offering excellent performance and extremely economical power consumption. Features include improved dynamic range, sensitivity and output compared with previous models, resulting in greater operating range and enhanced sidelobe suppression at short range.

Power requirements are significantly lower, making SeaBeacon 2 System 6 suitable for remote, solar powered installations near marine fairways, on isolated buoys, lighthouses and bridges.

These improvements have been achieved by improved accuracy in frequency matching, consistent pulse by pulse responses and advanced sidelobe suppression.

SeaBeacon 2 System 6 also features an intelligent power management system that allows users to programme precise quiescent and active periods as required to match performance with power consumption. In addition, the racon will automatically return to quiescent mode after a four-second active period, if there is no local radar activity.

SeaBeacon 2 can respond simultaneously and with a unique level of frequency accuracy to the radars of any number of vessels within line of sight range, even those with very narrow receiver bandwidths. The design gives operators an exceptionally clear indication of its identity and location and proportional scaling ensures that the racon trace remains clearly visible on radar displays regardless of the range scale selected.
