Multraship Purchases Bulgarian Tug Fleet

Multraship Towage & Salvage ofTerneuzen has purchased the Bulgarian towage and salvage operator Bourgas Tug Services (BTS). BTS provides harbour towage, local salvage and line handling services in and around the Bulgarian port of Bourgas. It has a fleet of four tugboats ranging from 1,500 to 4,300bhp and 50 employees.
On announcing the deal Leendert Muller, managing director of Multraship said, 'This is an important step for Multraship in developing our presence in the Black Sea. We have been active in the region since opening offices in Bulgaria and Romania in 2000 and we believe the combination of our expertise and local assets can bring substantial benefits to shipowners using the Black Sea ports.
'Multraship's permanent presence in the region will considerably enhance the professional towage and salvage capacity in an area with growing shipping and other marine operations and will therefore contribute significantly towards the safety of navigation in the Black Sea region.'
The Bourgas tug fleet is comprised of the Argonistis , now renamed Multratug 21 ; Atlas Z , now Multratug 22 ; Sanmar X , now Multratug 23 and Nearchos now Multratug 24 .
Multratug 24 is the most powerful vessel of the fleet, a twin screw tug of 25m in length with 4,000bhp and 40 tons bollard pull. It was built in 2000.
Apart from harbour towage operations Multraship is already active in salvage in the area.
Multraship, together with US salvor Titan and Romanian civil construction company Deltacons, is removing the wreck of the Ukrainian seagoing vessel Rostok from the Danube river.
Very recently, the aft section of the ship was successfully removed, leaving a further two sections to be removed.
