    Rubbish as Fuel for Marine Propulsion

    An interesting new proposal for a marine propulsion fuel source was presented at the World Maritime Technology Conference in London last month. Worldwide Ecological Shipping & Transport (WEST) of Rome has developed a patented process whereby large container ships could be powered by Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF).

    Marine exhaust silencing solution provider Halyard Marine Ltd has helped achieve lower noise levels on the River Thames with a new exhaust system fitted to a Port of London Authority (PLA) survey vessel. 

    'Razorbill' Flies After Repower

    An 8.5m fibreglass fishing boat operated out of Ramsgate UK by full-time fisherman Trevor Lamb has been repowered with a Perkins Sabre M215C diesel engine coupled to a PRM 750 gearbox. The boat was getting too slow with its old engine but following the repower, Razorbill now has a top speed of 10 knots.

    Light Workboat Jet Drive Debut

    Cummins MerCruiser Diesel has launched its 120hp (88kW) 1.7 MJ 120 diesel engine with an integrated jet drive, the first in a series of diesel engine with jet drive packages from the company which will go up to 250hp (184kW) and will be for both recreational and light commercial use.
