'Watchdog' Goes Into Orbit at Seawork
01 Aug 2006
Seawork 2006 was chosen by ASAP Supplies Ltd as the venue to launch its European distributorship of the compact Faria Watchdog Telematic System, which enables vessel operators to monitor their boats 24/7 and provides On Board Diagnostics - Marine (OBD-M) via a link to the engine's Electronic Management System using the Faria MG2000.
'Watchdog' is an on board satellite based wireless communications, location tracking and monitoring system incorporating Orbcomm, an extensive network of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and SONY Ericcson/Cingular for GSM service. It has been developed to allow owner/operators to check engine performance, survey on board network systems, and track vessel position from the comfort of a distant office, ensuring their investment is being used to maximum effect. Among the functions which can be monitored are heading, speed, trip log, sea and air temperature, barometer, water depth, fuel consumption, fuel remaining, engine hours run, system voltage, automated bilge alarm and Geofencing, which warns of unauthorised vessel movement.
Parameters for working area and vessel movements can be pre-set and the vessel owner/ operator notified if set limits are exceeded. The compact system can interface with most engine manufacturers' digital data protocols and will often interface with other on board systems.
A simple plug and play harness enables the system to be powered up and activates a self testing start-up sequence to commence.
All units are set up and pre-tested before delivery.
