Increasing Demand for IHC Dredgers
01 Feb 2006
Prolific Dutch dredger builders IHC Holland Merwede have made a flying start on 2006 with new orders booked to the value of ?250m. The orders suggest that IHC shipyards at Kinderdijk, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Sliedrecht, Delfgauw, Goes and Litostroj (in Slovenia) will be utilised through most of 2007.
New orders include a 6,000m 3capacity trailing suction hopper dredger for Karachi Port Trust in Pakistan, two trailing suction hopper dredgers of 11,650m 3capacities for Belgium's DEME Group, two medium cutter suction dredgers to be built cooperatively in China, three of the company's ubiquitous Beaver cutter suction dredgers for customers in India and Russia, and a letter of intent for a complex pipe laying vessel.
These orders require 750 man years of direct labour and twice that mount in the indirect sphere of sub-contractors and sub-suppliers. In view of this healthy order book, IHC will need to increase staff levels.
