DeepOcean and Multraship Add Hydro Capability
01 Feb 2006
The recently merged DeepOcean and Oceanteam Group of companies, now trading as DeepOcean out of Den Helder in the Netherlands, has renewed its arrangement with Multraship Towage & Salvage of Terneuzen for the charter of the latter's 56.1m LOA vessel 'Multraship Commander'.
DeepOcean and Multraship have collaborated to develop Multraship Commander into a versatile craft capable of DP1 mooring deployments, ROV inspection, diving support, and hydrographic survey activities such as echo sounding, side scan and swathe multibeam survey and sub-bottom profiling.
Built in 1982 by Damen Shipyards at Gorinchem, the 991gt vessel is powered by twin 370 klW Stork Werkspoors engines driving controllable pitch propellers for a cruising speed of 10 knots.
Further planned enhancements to the craft comprise improvements to the air conditioning and an update of operational facilities, which currently include a 30 t/m travelling gantry crane located over the vessel's 3.8m 2moonpool, a 10 t/m single boom, aft mounted swivel crane, a five ton stern mounted 'A' frame and 250 m2 of working deck for additional equipment and containerised spreads. There is accommodation on board for 30 personnel and workshops as well as survey laboratories.
This commitment by DeepOcean to support its subsea services capabilities in the Western Europe sector reflects a broader vision of global growth. The company's offices in the Netherlands and the UK will control Multraship Commander's operational activities.
