Royal Opening for WMTC 06

The Duke of Edinburgh is to open the World Maritime Technology Conference at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London on 6 March.

Organised by IMarEST in association with 24 leading world maritime organisations, the five day triennial event will feature nearly 240 papers by speakers from 33 countries as well as poster sessions, an exhibition and industrial visits.

Around 1,500 delegates are expected.

Following an opening plenary session at which Joe Borg, EC Directorate General for Fisheries & Maritime Affairs, is among those speaking. There will be 10 main conference sessions or streams. They include Operational Oceanography, EEZ Management, Underwater Vehicles, and Coastal & Ocean Mapping. Chaired by John Pepper of the UK Hydrographic Office, the Coastal & Ocean Mapping session includes presentations by experts from Australia, Fiji, Norway, Portugal, Taiwan, UK and the US on topics ranging from high resolution bathymetric surveys to stereoscopic displays of 3-D hydrographic data.
