Reorganised Barrus at London Boat Show

Major UK engine importer and distributor EP Barrus Ltd chose the occasion of the London Boat Show earlier this month to announce a major reorganisation of its Marine Divisions aimed at providing an enhanced service to the dealer network and OEMs. The company's new direction will see marine activities divided into three groups: Propulsion, Boats, and Cruising Comfort.

The new 25hp EFI Mercury outboard weighs 10kg less than the previous model.

New at the London Boat Show on the engine side were all new Mariner and Mercury three cylinder, electronic fuel injection (EFI) four stroke outboards rated at 25hp and 30hp. Replacing the existing 25hp Big Foot and 30hp EFI four stroke models, the new engines come with updated 'Verado' graphics and a modified cowl. The new 25hp EFI weighs just 71kg, 10kg less than the previous Big Foot while the new 30hp EFI is 28kg lighter than the model it replaces.

The new models are available in short (381mm) and long (508mm) shaft lengths with remote or tiller control and manual, gas assisted power trim and tilt. Both models meet European emission regulations.

Also launched at the Boat Show were 80hp and 100hp Mariner and Mercury EFI four cylinder, four stroke outboards as well as four cylinder, four stroke supercharged Mercury and Mariner Verado outboards rated at 135hp and 150hp.

In its Boating division Barrus introduced a line of Genesis performance RIBs manufactured by Walker Bay Boats Ltd. A new lightweight hull design and trim tabs enable the boats to achieve greater speeds with smaller engines. With a 15hp outboard, the new 310 model will plane in less than three seconds and reach speeds of up to 25 knots.

The Barrus Cruising Comfort division has been appointed sole UK and Republic of Ireland distributor for America's Marvair SeaMach air conditioning units as well as WhisperGen diesel powered marine generators.

The WhisperGen is a fully automated 12 or 24 volt diesel powered unit that produces electricity and heating. Ultra-quiet as observed at the Boat Show, the power station has a noise level similar to that of a domestic air conditioning unit.

As a DC generator it works by automatically managing and charging a battery bank, making energy available whenever it is needed. Small and lightweight, WhisperGen is built for long life and minimal maintenance using quality materials including titanium, ceramic, and marine grade stainless steel.

WhisperGen's four cylinder, double acting Stirling engine contains no oil, eliminating the need for oil and filters.

A brushless permanent magnet alternator, completely sealed within the engine, is maintenance free. A built in self-diagnostic system displays key data on a control panel, enabling quick access to fix any problems.
