    SOLAS Sets Safe Servicing Standards

    Amendments to Chapter III of SOLAS, which came into force on 1 July 2006, and the proper implementation of MSC1206 (incl MSC1093), a guidance note amplifying SOLAS requirements, together introduce new rules for looking after lifeboats and davits. The new rules and guidance require regular tests and inspections of lifeboats, release gear and davit winches on all SOLAS ships, and specify what these tests should be and who should do them. 

    Modular Lifting for Wave Power Units

    Four huge Pelamis P-750 wave power machines manufactured by Camcal were recently lifted from an Isle of Lewis dockside onto the specialist workboat M/V Sea Power which is operated by prime contractor A2SEA. The Poole UK based engineering firm Modulift Design & Consultancy (MDC) supplied a key component which ensured the safe lifting of the wave power machines.

    Seattle USA based marine winch systems specialist Markey Machinery Company has supplied a double drum TDSD-34 towing winch for the newbuild Ann T Cheramie, owned by Louisiana based Rene J Cheramie & Sons.
