VideoRay in Starring Role at Seawork

Atlantas Marine returns to Seawork and can be found on Stand 114 where, amongst other things, it will be showing the VideoRay Micro ROV which HRH The Duke of Edinburgh used to open the recent World Maritime Technology Conference (WMTC 2006) over the internet. By streaming live 'control and video' over the internet from London, the VideoRay ROV opened a chest which was submerged at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. A banner announcing the Conference was 'Officially Open' floated to the surface.

Atlantas Marine has supplied two VideoRay Pro III ROVs to the National Marine Aquarium, both fitted to take Tritech scanning sonars and both supplied with manipulators.

Atlantas first became involved in this project at Oceanology International 2004, when the Aquarium's new ExplorOcean project was being conceived.

The size, manoeuvrability and capability of the VideoRay ROV, coupled with the ability to attach tools such as the Mini Scanning Sonar made it a natural inclusion at the UK's first dedicated marine science educational attraction, which includes 20 interactive exhibits. One of these allows visitors to operate the VideoRay Pro IIIs in a tank and race them through an obstacle course against other mini ROVs.

One of the VideoRays operated by the Aquarium has been fitted with the new Greater Thrust Options (GTOs) which allow the VideoRay to operate in currents of up to 4.5 knots. The Pro III GTO is thus ideal for open water tidal conditions and is being used to dive off the ex-Royal navy vessel Scylla in Plymouth Sound.

Atlantas' commercial director Ruth Russell reports that the company has already received a purchase order from a visitor to ExplorOcean, who was so impressed with the speed and handling of the VideoRay that he had to buy one. Visitors to Seawork 2006 will have the same opportunity and for those who cannot be there, a film of the VideoRay opening WMTC 2006 can be seen at www. atlantasmarine. com MJInformation No: 21953
