'Marieke' Launched for DEME
01 Jun 2006
Marieke, the new 5,600m3 trailing suction hopper dredger for Belgian contractor DEME was launched recently at the IHC Holland Merwede yard at Sliedrecht in the Netherlands.
It is an extrapolation of the design for Pallieter, a 5,400m 3hopper dredger delivered for DEME by IHC Holland Dredgers BV in 2004.
A second copy of the Pallieter, the 5,600m 3Reynaert, will be built at the IHC yard at Kinderdijk, with construction starting this summer and a launch scheduled for November of this year.
The 97.5m LOA Marieke possesses the versatility to undertake shallow water works such as port maintenance and beach replenishment but can also make a meaningful contribution to land reclamation projects. The twin screw vessel has a total installed power of 6,776kW and can dredge to a maximum depth of 33m through a single 1,000mm diameter suction tube on the port side.
A maximum load capacity of 8,190 tons can be carried at 12.8 knots with a draught of just 7.1m. The load can be discharged by means of rectangular bottom doors, pumped ashore through a floating pipeline, or 'rainbowed' to shore as is common for beach replenishment and land reclamation works.
There is accommodation on board for a crew of 14.
