Thales Upgrades Positioning Systems

Thales Navigation has upgraded its marine survey Aquarius, Sagitta and 3011 GPS compass satellite navigation and positioning systems with the introduction of a new back-up feature. With it, marine, dredging and survey organisations can now acquire clear, accurate and reliable positioning results with increased flexibility without any interruptions due to weak or out of range radio signals.

The new facility simultaneously computes dual position fixes from two different sources of corrections while continuously controlling a position quality index in order to automatically switch between those sources providing the best available quality and accuracy. As a result, Thales claims that the Aquarius, Sagitta and 3011 compass systems are now the first marine GPS solutions to offer seamless positioning performance, making almost any survey operation quicker and more efficient.

Main distributors of the systems for the UK and Ireland are Ormston Technology of Beverley, who are exhibiting at Seawork 2006.
