Trinity House 'Alert' to Opportunities
01 Jun 2006
Trinity House has taken delivery of its Rapid Intervention Vessel (RIV) Alert, built by Remontowa at Gdansk in Poland, where the 39.3m LOA vessel completed sea trials before being accepted into service.
Alert will be based in Harwich and has been designed with buoy handling, wreck marking, towing, multibeam and sidescan sonar hyrographic survey capabilities.
With DP1, a maximum speed of 17 knots, a service speed of 13 knots and a 25 ton bollard pull, Alert will be deployed to cover the UK southeast coast, primarily making rapid response to any maritime incidents in the Dover Strait. This will provide an efficient service for mariners entering the ports and navigating the seaways under Trinity House jurisdiction.
In addition to its primary duties, Alert is also available for hire as a research platform, offering a large working deck that can be used or the deployment of scientific equipment and sampling work. Available 24/7 and with accommodation for five supernumeries, Alert will provide customers with an opportunity to utilise a state of the art project vessel at competitive rates.
Alert's arrival in the UK represents the completion of the first stage of an investment of £38m on three new vessels by the General Lighthouse Authorities of the UK and Ireland. The second Trinity House vessel is to be launched in Poland next month, with arrival in the UK scheduled for early next year.
