GSS Zings Back to Seawork

Scotland based marine construction and support services company and returning Seawork exhibitor GSS has been forging ahead with expansion plans over the last six months.

The new GSS workboat will join a fleet which includes the Laura M.
The new GSS workboat will join a fleet which includes the Laura M.

Winter saw the introduction of a commercial coatings and shot blasting division for both land based and sea based works. This operation had barely taken off when GSS was also awarded approved applicator status for Zinga Coatings. GSS contracts manager Bill Long has already landed jobs involving seawall and pile coatings, not to mention bus shelters and pylon painting. Many of the GSS painting team are fully IRATA certified climbing and rope access experts.

GSS marine operations will be boosted by the arrival of Megan M, a new 24m by 8.5m multicat type workboat. Powered by twin 800hp Daewoo marine diesels with propellers in fixed nozzles, the craft is expected to generate in excess of 20 tons bollard pull.

The deck equipment package will include a 140t/m knuckle boom crane with a lift in excess of 5 tons at 18m and a lift over the bow of 26 tons. The crane will have a 5 ton winch operated by remote control.

A winch package includes a 40 ton main deck winch, four 3 ton mooring winches and a 10 ton stern winch.

All winches will be controllable from both the bridge or on deck.

Fuel capacity will be in excess of 30m transferable at speed through a metered pump.

Water capacity will be 30m 3and transferable.

Power for clients will be provided by a main 85kVa generator backed up by a 26kVa auxiliary harbour set.

The modern wheelhouse will have ample space for survey equipment and excellent all-round visibility for the master. The electronics package includes two DGPS systems, radar, two VHFs, GSM and satellite phones, depth sounder and autopilot.

Below the wheelhouse is a large, comfortable day area for the use of clients and crew.

Below deck is a large mess area and accommodation for up to eight clients and crew.

With 150m 2of deck space and a load capacity of 10 tons per m 2, Megan M should make GSS even busier when it becomes available for charter in the autumn.
