Safety Management Award for ABP
01 Jun 2006
Seawork's landlord, Associated British Ports, has won a prestigious Occupational Health & Safety Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
The RoSPA awards are given to companies that successfully reduce the number of accidents in the workplace, and which exhibit a strong health and safety management structure. In the past, ABP's operations have received RoSPA awards for strong local performances but this is the first time that ABP has received an award for consistent improvement as a company overall.
ABP is a large industrial company that owns and operates 21 ports around the UK.
The company has invested a great deal of time and effort in hard hitting awareness campaigns that educate its staff on the importance of working safely. In 2005 this resulted in ABP's reportable injury rate fall to 9.3 injuries per thousand employees, down from 14.0 the year before.
