01 Jun 2006
Swedish boat builder Dockstavarvet delivered its 23rd pilot boat to Denmark last month when the Vega was turned over at the Nordhavn A/S facilities in the port of Aarhus. Vega will be stationed in Spodsbjerg at the southern entrance of the Great Belt narrows.
Vega is the 16th boat of Dockstavarvet's 14m type. It measures 13.9m by 4.6m with an aluminium hull and a resiliently mounted GRP sandwich wheelhouse with seating for up to six pilots in addition to the coxswain.
Vega is the first boat delivered with the new Scania 16 litre engines combined with Twin Disc QuickShift gears and electronic control system. With a heavy duty rating of 400kW this drive line delivers a sprint speed of 23 knots smoothly and keeps noise levels in the wheelhouse well below the stipulated 65 db(A).
Furuno has supplied the navigation equipment, including their new FAR-2X17 black box radar, SC-50 GPS compass, autopilot, MaxSea chart system and two 17" flat screens.
In addition to the usual security equipment, the AP14000 is fitted with a man overboard direction finder, a rescue crane and a separate manoeuvring station on the aft deck to facilitate fast and safe rescue of a man overboard, even under severe conditions.
