Dubai Ports World has been forced to put the American dimension of its newly acquired P&O Ports operation up for sale following an unprecedented eruption of xenophobia in the US Congress. Senators and Representatives from both American political parties joined in a chorus of hysteria over a sale they claimed would open doors to international terrorism in the six American ports where P&O has operations.

Marine Environmental High Risk Areas Revealed

In a Written Statement to Parliament last month, the British Government's Transport Secretary, Alistair Darling MP, unveiled 32 locations around the UK coast that have been identified as Marine Environmental High Risk Areas (MEHRAs). The primary purpose of the MEHRAs will be to inform mariners of areas of high environmental sensitivity where there is a real risk of pollution from shipping.

Light Dues Online Migration Completed

King Henry VIII would marvel at the changes since he first issued Trinity House with the Charter to collect Light Dues in 1514. The latest is a new internet based solution, Automatic Light Dues Information System (ALDIS), which has been delivered to Trinity House for the collection of Light Dues from commercial shipping around the coast of England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar.

Dutch dredging industry giant Royal Bosklis Westminster nv has acquired the dredging fleet of Finnish company Wasa Dredging Oy. The Wasa staff of some 30 employees will join Terramare Oy, the Finnish home market subsidiary of Boskalis.

Along with another Petronas subsidiary, Malaysia Marine and Heavy Equipment, they needed a mooring point for shuttle tankers to an FSO operated by Talisman Energy in the South Angsi-A oil field.
