Hot Seawork Starts with Blue Cool
01 May 2006
Launched as Blue Cool, Webasto's air conditioners are available for retro-fitment in two model ranges; the Blue Cool Classic Self Contained models providing an inexpensive, unobtrusive and highly efficient solution for craft with one to three cabins while the Blue Cool Premium Chiller/Water range delivers totally integrated chiller air conditioning for larger boats.
Unveiled at this year's London International Boat Show, Blue Cool Select is the latest addition to Webasto's range, bringing even more innovation to small boat air conditioning. It features a central air conditioning unit which creates cool air and gathers it into a plenum chamber, from where it is sucked through special smoothbore ducting by fans located in the cabins. These fans have been developed to be compact and extremely quiet. They can be supplied with integrated control, enabling different temperatures to be set in each cabin. Webasto has thus made it possible to replace multiple self contained air conditioning systems with a single, larger unit which dramatically cuts overall costs.
Webasto is currently developing a climate control version of Blue Cool Select which will bring smaller craft the benefits currently enjoyed by the users of Webasto's larger systems. Complete climate control is the holy grail of many boat owners and Webasto has already supplied such systems to Azimut, Cranchi and Fairline.
Webasto's UK marine engineer James West said, 'We are not only introducing air conditioning to boats that would not normally have a system installed. We intend to go much further and enable climate control systems to be available for every type of craft with cabins.'
