Busy Days for Jan De Nul
01 Nov 2006
Belgium’s Jan De Nul Group continues it fleet renewal and expansion programme with an order for two newbuild trailing suction hopper dredgers which will be built by Heun Woo Steel Co Ltd in Busan, South Korea. Each vessel represents an investment of some €100m. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in August and November of 2008.
Measuring 104.25m LOA and with a reduced draught of 8.15m, the 7,500m3 capacity dredgers are designed primarily to work in shallow waters and thus have a maximum dredging depth of only 41.5m.
Continuing the Eastern theme, Jan De Nul has launched the cutter suction dredger ‘Hondius’ at the yard of Xinhe Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co Ltd of Tianjin in China. Following only three months after the launch of sister vessel Kaeriu’ from the same yard, Hondius is the second 1,500kW CSD to be born as the result of European/Chinese engineering and technology transfer.
Mr Wang Jin Xing, general manager of Xinhe Shipbuilding, thanked the Jan De Nul Group for the administrative support and technical advice which he said was helping to improve the yard’s quality standard.
